Arabic Sushi – Perfect Recipe For Ramadan

ARABIC SUSHI

Serves: 4-6

Preparation time: 40 minutes

Cooking time: 30 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/3 Cup Rice Vinegar
  • 3tbsp Sugar
  • 3 Cups Japanese Rice (Preferably Nishiki Or Carlose)
  • 1tsp Salt
  • 3/4 Cup Of Water
  • Assorted Middle Eastern Fillings (See Suggestions Below)
  • 8 Pieces Nori Sheets
  • Assorted Middle Eastern fillings. (Please see suggestions below)

SHAWARMA MAKI:

  • Hummus
  • Shawarma Chicken
  • Arabic Pickle
  • Tomato
  • Cos Lettuce
  • Garlic Mayonnaise

FALAFEL MAKI:

  • Falafel
  • Sesame Seed
  • Tomato
  • Cucumber
  • Pickle
  • Tahina

BEETROOT MAKI:

  • Beetroot Murtable
  • Black Sesame Seeds
  • Daikon Julienne
  • Roasted Beetroot Baton

TABBOULEH MAKI:

  • Cucumber Julienne
  • Tomato Julienne
  • Tabbouleh
  • Lollo Rosa Lettuce
  • Mayonnaise
  • Preserved Lemon

RECIPE:

  • Wash the rice, and repeat 6 to 8 times until water becomes clear. Dump the rice in a colander and placed aside for 20 minutes. Put the rice in a rice cooker and add water.
  • When the rice is boiled, let it leave for around 15 minutes.
  • Make sushi vinegar by adding rice vinegar, sugar and salt in a pan. Put the pan on low flame and heat until the sugar melt. Cool.
  • Spread the hot heated rice onto a big plate or a big bowl. Dampen the vinegar mixture over the rice and set to the side.

MAXI ROLLING:

  • Center 1 sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi cover and soak your hands.
  • Using your hands, settled a thin layer of rice on the sheet of nori, and press into a thin layer
  • Adjust the ingredients of your selection in a line down the centre of the rice.
  • Lift the end of the mat, and smoothly roll it over the ingredients, pushing gently. Roll it forward to make a full roll. Repeat with left ingredients.

CHEF’S TIPS:

  • Hand rolls take a bit of training. Start with this process until you are comfortable before trying more detailed styles of maki rolling.
  • Fillings are just ideas, let your creativity take over and the chances are endless.
